Friday's Women's #ASUNXC Action Results in Top 10-Finishes for Four Teams

Women's Cross Country Schedule


ATLANTA, Ga. - Friday morning's ASUN Conference Women's Cross Country action saw five teams hitting the course. Jacksonville, North Alabama, North Florida and Stetson represented at the FSU Invitational while NJIT participated in the Metropolitan Championships at 11 AM. These were the final regular-season meets for the Dolphins, Ospreys, Hatters and Highlanders before the 2019 ASUN Championship on Nov. 2nd in Fort Myers, Fla. The Lions' last race of the regular season comes Friday, Oct. 18th at the Blazer Classic in Montevallo, Ala.

In the 24-team field at the FSU Invitational in Tallahassee, Fla., the Ospreys placed fourth overall, while the Lions finished seventh and the Hatters came in ninth. JAX's Hayleigh Palotti had the best finish for any ASUN runner in the 5K race with a 12th-place time of 18:07.3. The sophomore was the only student-athlete representing the Dolphins in the meet. Five others joined Palotti in the top-30 finishers of the field of 228 runners. UNF was represented by Grace Gumpel (18:11.9, 16th), Camryn Cooney (18:22.0, 22nd) and Raquel Lespasio (18:27.7, 27th). They were joined by UNA's Phoebe Moon (18:25.9, 25th) and Stetson's Meggie Schneider (18:29.5, 28th).

NJIT finished seventh overall at the Metropolitan Championships 5K held in the Bronx at Van Cortlandt Park. Kelly Dicristina paced the Highlanders with a 20:04.6 finish that earned her 28th place. Three other runners from the team finished within the top-50 of the race that included over 80 runners: Cassandra Raia (20:28.7, 40th), Chloe Jelley (20:30.9, 42nd) and ASUN Freshman of the Week Laila Hill-Glover (20:40.9, 48th).
