Women's #ASUNXC Weekend Featured Four Teams in Action

Women's Cross Country Schedule

ATLANTA, Ga. - This past weekend of the ASUN Women's Cross Country 2019 Season included four teams in action. FGCU, Kennesaw State and Lipscomb competed at the Greater Louisville Classic while NJIT hosted the Highlander XC Challenge as a part of the school's Homecoming Weekend.

Lipscomb's Brooke Kingma had the best finish for any ASUN runner in the Greater Louisville Classic Gold 5K with a ninth-place time of 17:26.3. She was joined in the top-25 finishers by teammates Lauren Flynt (17:34.2, 18th) and Hannah Owens (17:38.0, 23rd). Katie Meyer was the first Kennesaw State runner to cross the line at 17:48.6 and she finished in 42nd place. Other top performers for the conference were Grace Oetting (17:53.0, 45th, Lipscomb), Grace Lahey (17:57.6, 50th, Lipscomb) and Sarah Hendrick (18:00.0, 56th, Kennesaw State). Lipscomb placed second in the 38-team field while KSU came in 32nd. The Bisons and Owls both return to action on Friday, Oct. 18th when they compete in the Blazer Classic in Montevallo, Ala.

FGCU was led by sophomore Emily O'Connor in the Louisville Classic's Blue 5K. She finished with a time of 19:32.3 for 81st place while the Eagles ended in 24th overall out of 62 teams. Other top performers for the Eagles to join O'Connor with sub 20-minute times were Jillian Felton (19:35.5, 88th) and Gianna Citarella (19:56.2, 145th). This was FGCU's final meet of the season before hosting the 2019 ASUN Championship on Nov. 2nd in Fort Myers, Fla., at the Buckingham Complex.

NJIT finished fourth overall out of 29 teams competing in the 5K Highlander XC Challenge held Saturday morning in Branch Brook Park. Cassandra Raia paced the Highlanders with 18:48.85 finish that earned her 12th place. Two other runners from the team finished within the top 20 of the race that included over 250 runners: Kelly Dicristina (18:52.81, 16th) and Laila Hill-Glover (18:55.46, 17th). NJIT's final tune-up race before the 2019 ASUN Championship comes this Friday, Oct. 11th in the Bronx at the Metropolitan Championships.
