Five Squads in Action for Women's #ASUNXC Weekend; JAX's Palotti Wins Again

Women's Cross Country Schedule


ATLANTA, Ga. - This past weekend of the ASUN Women's Cross Country 2019 Season included five teams competing across five meets. Liberty split its team between two meets on Friday to join Jacksonville, North Florida and Stetson in the day's action. NJIT capped off the weekend in a race Saturday morning.

At the Virginia/Panorama Farms Invitational in Earlysville, Va., the Flames were led again by Adelyn Ackley who finished in seventh place with a time of 20:45.2 in the first 6K race of her career. The freshman had the best-ever individual finish at this meet and helped Liberty earn a program-best finish of fifth. Calli Parlier (21:32.4, 24th) joined Ackley as a top-25 finisher while three other Flames crossed within the top 60: Priscillah Kiplagat (21:46.4, 33rd), Emma Bower (22:19.1, 50th), Brittany Carnathan (22:32.0, 56th). Liberty returns to action Saturday, Oct. 19th when they compete in the NCAA Pre-Nationals.

Liberty posted its second top-10 finish of the day by placing eighth in a field of 39 teams at the Queen City Invite 5K in Charlotte, N.C. Lauren Hirneisen paced the Flames with a 35th-place finish with a time of 19:04. The next four finishers for Liberty were Chelsea Stocki (19:19, 48th), Vivian Reed (19:34, 62nd), Rebekah Leone (19:37, 64th) and Sophia Jantomaso (19:43, 67th). The best individual performance from an ASUN runner in Friday's race came from Stetson's Meggie Schneider. Placing ninth with a time of 18:26 out of 316 runners who finished, Schneider broke the school's 5K record that was previously set in 2014. The Hatters finished 11th overall and had two other runners cross with top-70 finishes in Melanie Pacheco (19:12, 42nd) and Nicohl Torres-Santos (19:45, 68th) Stetson hits the course again on Oct. 11th in Tallahassee Fla., at the FSU Invitational.

Hayleigh Palotti raced to the top overall finish for the second week in a row at the UCF Invitational 6K in Orlando, Fla. Palotti's individual winning time of 21:47.63 led the Dolphins to a  fifth-place overall finish. She now ranks ninth for the all-time fastest 6K time in school history. Jayda Brooks (26:42.67), Rain Marti (26:42.79), Lauren Polimeno (27:00.34), and Serena Gadson (29:43.03) rounded out the Jacksonville contingent in the race. On Friday, Oct. 11th, the Dolphins are in action with Stetson in Tallahassee.

Sophomore Camryn Cooney (22:55.6, 22nd) led the Ospreys to a fifth-place finish at the Mizzou Gans Creek Classic 6K on Friday in Columbia, Mo. Sadie McLaughlin crossed the line at 23:02.8 to join Cooney inside the top-30 with a 28th-place finish. The next three UNF finishers were Raquel Lespasio (23:07.8, 32nd), Grace Gumpel (23:19.8, 37th) and Hannah Evans (24:13.1, 58th). The Ospreys compete again on the road when they join Jacksonville and Stetson at the FSU Invitational.

The Highlanders finished 11th out of 19 teams in the Ted Owen Invitational 5K Saturday morning in New Britain, Conn. The team was led by junior Kelly Dicristina who set a school record for the course with a time of 19:33.0 and a 28th-place finish. Laila Hill-Glover (20:51.6, 72nd), Chloe Jelly (20:53.2, 74th), Allison Guajala (22:06.4, 108th) and Stuti Vyas (22:56.0, 126th) were the next four runners to cross the line for NJIT. The Highlanders return to action at home this weekend when they host the Highlander XC Challenge this Saturday, Oct. 5th.
