Six Teams Begin 34th Season of ASUN Women's Cross Country

Women's Cross Country Schedule

ATLANTA, Ga. - Six ASUN Conference Women's Cross Country sides open the 34th season of competition with races at four different meets on Friday. Lipscomb enters the season as the lone conference team ranked in the preseason USTFCCCA Regional Polls sitting at 13th in the South Region.

The Bisons join conference newcomer, North Alabama at the Belmont Opener for a 5K race at Percy Warner Park - the site of four past ASUN Championships. The Lions are making their Division I debut for the 5:30 PM CT meet in Nashville. Liberty makes its debut as an official ASUN member at the Virginia Tech Invitational at 6 PM ET on the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course. 

The FAU Invitational features two conference teams in their field with FGCU and Stetson toeing the line in Boca Raton for a 6 PM ET start time. Kennesaw State wraps up Friday with the JSU Struts Cross Country Opener in Oxford, Ala. with a 6 PM CT starting gun. Jacksonville, NJIT and North Florida begin their seasons next week.

FGCU & Stetson at FAU Invitational 5K - Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park - 6 PM
- Last year, Stetson grabbed fourth at the FAU Invite with 70 points, ahead of FGCU in fifth with 107. FAU earned the women's title with 51 points followed by Miami and UCF.
- Meggie Schneider (18:35.11; 3rd) posted the best performance for Stetson at last year's FAU Invite.
- FGCU's Carley Lutzow was the top performer at the 2017 FAU Invite in sixth place with her time of 18:56.42.

Liberty at Virginia Tech Invitational 4K - Buford Meredith Cross Country Course - 6 PM
- This marks the 12th-straight season in which Liberty has run at the VT's Buford Meredith XC Course.
- The Flames are guided by sophomore Noel Palmer as she finished first on the team in four of six races last season.

Lipscomb & North Alabama at Belmont Opener 5K - Percy Warner Park - 5:30 PM CT
- Lipscomb has started its year at the Belmont Opener for the past 10 seasons, while North Alabama makes its Division I debut in Nashville. 
- Last year, the Bisons finished second to Vanderbilt as Courtney Brenner grabbed first place (17:40.61) with three others in the top-10.
- North Alabama's roster features five upperclassmen including Emma Knight, who led the Lions in five of the six meets last year.

Kennesaw State at JSU Struts XC Opener 5K - Choccolocco Park Sports Complex - 6 PM CT
- The Owls return three of their top-four runners from last year's ASUN Championship. KSU takes to the JSU Struts XC Opener for the second-straight season. 
- Kennesaw State finished fourth at last year's JSU Struts 4K nine-team field led by Caitlyn Farrell's 11th-place finish in 15:11.76.
