ATLANTA, Ga. - Four ASUN Conference Volleyball players were named to the 2018 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region teams on Tuesday. The 2018 ASUN Champion FGCU Eagles were well represented, as ASUN Player of the Year, Cortney VanLiew and teammate Sharonda Pickering earned spots on the Southeast Region Team. Lipscomb's Carlyle Nusbaum earned a spot on the South Region Team, while Kennesaw State's Lexi Broadwater also garnered a spot on South team.
After leading FGCU to its first-ever ASUN Championship and NCAA Tournament win, VanLiew garnered her first All-Region honor. VanLiew led the ASUN in kills with 482 and finished second in kills/set with a mark of 4.02. In FGCU's NCAA Tournament win against No. 13 UCF, VanLiew poured in 25 kills and 12 digs. Pickering led the ASUN and finished third nationally in hitting percentage with a mark of .419 and earned First Team All-Conference honors.
Nusbaum, two-time ASUN Player of the Year, finds herself on the South Region Team for the third-straight season. The Overland Park, Kan. native led the ASUN in kills/set with a mark of 4.04 and finished second in total kills with 436. Nusbaum capped off her career with 1,751 kills, which is most in Lipscomb's history and second most in the ASUN record books.
Kennesaw State landed a player on the All-Region team for the second-straight season, as Lexi Broadwater earned the honor. Broadwater, the ASUN Setter of the Year, led the conference in assists and assists/set with marks of 1,354 and 11.28. She also helped KSU to a school-record 24 wins.
