LakePoint, Ga. - Three ASUN Volleyball players were named to the 2017 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Region teams on Tuesday. ASUN Players of the Year, Carlyle Nusbaum of Lipscomb and Amanda Carroll of FGCU earned spots on the All-South and All-Southeast teams, while Kennesaw State middle blocker Liesl Engelbrecht saw herself on the All-South team as well.
This marks the second-straight season Nusbaum has made the team, as well as the fifth-straight season Lipscomb has placed a player on the All-Region team. Nusbaum led the ASUN in kills and kills/set, en route to her second-straight ASUN Player of the Year Award. Her 5.22 kills/set ranked fourth nationally, while her 522 total kills were good for 14th nationally.
After finding herself on the AVCA All-Southeast Honorable Mention a year ago, Carroll is an AVCA All-Southeast first-teamer this season. Carroll was one of the best overall players in the ASUN this season, as she ranked in in the top-10 in the ASUN in the kills, kills/set, digs, service aces, hitting percentage, points and points/set. This season Carroll also set a program record for career kills, as she now sits at 1,354 career kills with one year of eligibility to go. She also led FGCU to a third-straight 20-win season and an appearance in the ASUN Championship Final.
After making its first NCAA Tournament appearance and posting a program-record 21 victories, Kennesaw State continues to add to its historic season. Liesl Engelbrecht is the first KSU player ever to be named to the AVCA All-South team. Engelbrecht was dominant on the block for the Owls this season. She led the ASUN in blocks/set with a mark of 1.14 and finished fifth in total blocks with 91. Engelbrecht also was effective offensively, as she hit .335 and posted 2.44 kills/sets.
All three players are now qualified for consideration for the AVCA All-America Team.
