LakePoint, Ga. - Three Saturday matches closed out the ASUN Women's Soccer regular season, solidifying the seeds for the 2016 ASUN Women's Soccer Championship. The pre-determined No. 4 seed Kennesaw State defeated USC Upstate 2-1 in Spartanburg. Lipscomb breezed through a 3-0 victory against NJIT, eliminating the Highlanders from the postseason. FGCU defeated North Florida 1-0 at Hodges Stadium, earning its seventh-consecutive ASUN regular season title.
2016 ASUN Women's Soccer Championship Field
#1 FGCU: The Eagles defeated North Florida on the road Saturday night to claim their seventh-straight ASUN regular season title outright. Lauren Greene's goal in the 70th minute was the difference tonight. FGCU will host the 2016 ASUN Championship in Ft. Myers, Fla. FGCU is the only team to finish the regular season undefeated in conference play. The Eagles haven't dropped an ASUN contest since 2012. FGCU claims the longest active conference regular season streak.
#2 Lipscomb: The Bisons closed out the regular season as the No. 2 seed for the third consecutive season. Lipscomb has notched 11 goals in the last three games, with freshman Olivia Doak leading the brigade. Doak is the leading goal scorer for Lipscomb, and ranks third in the ASUN for goals with seven.
#3 Stetson: Stetson enters the ASUN Championship as the No. 3 seed. The Hatters regular season campaign included a seven-game winning streak, the longest in program history. Stetson has leaned on two standout players, junior Sarah Collins and freshman Emily Plotz all season long. Collins emerges atop multiple ASUN leaderboards, as she is first for shots taken (75), second in goals (11), and second for points (28). Plotz showcases the lowest GAA in the league at 0.76. Stetson welcomes North Florida to DeLand, Fla. on Oct. 29th in the first round of the ASUN Championship.
#4 Kennesaw State: The Owls were locked in at the No. 4 seed prior to taking the field in today's match. Kennesaw State will host Jacksonville on Oct. 29th in the first round of the ASUN Championship. Senior Kim Fincher owns 19 points on the season, third in the league.
#5 Jacksonville: Jacksonville did its part and earned a key 3-2 victory against Stetson Friday evening to keep their postseason chances alive. Lipscomb's win readied a spot for the Dolphins where they closed out the regular season as the No. 5 seed. Joelle d'Entremont leads the Jacksonville roster with four goals on the season.
#6 North Florida: North Florida heads into the ASUN Championship as the No. 6 seed after notching wins against NJIT and USC Upstate to solidify its placement. The Ospreys feature three players with five goals apiece: Alexis Bredeau, Krista Colubiale, and Katy Mixon.
