ATLANTA, Ga. - As the 2019 ASUN Women's Lacrosse season kicks off on February 8th, we take a closer look at each of the seven conference teams as they prepare for the upcoming season.
Kennesaw State comes into 2019 looking to build off a season that ended in an appearance in the ASUN Championship. The Owls went 8-9, setting a program record for wins. This year they bring back many key pieces including Siena Gore, Haley Swift, Maura Palandro and goalie Alex Bunn.
Gore emerged as one of the best goal scorers in the nation last season as a freshman. She set an ASUN single-season record with 70 goals, which ranked 11th in the nation. Her fantastic freshman campaign led to First Team All-Conference honors and the 2018 ASUN Freshman of the Year. Haley Swift returns on the attack for the Owls this season as just one of two seniors on the roster. Swift was a Second Team All-Conference honoree in 2018 and ranked second on Kennesaw State in points with 35. Izzy Palermo looks to be another strong piece to the Owls attack, finish last season with 30 points including 28 goals. Kennesaw State brings back one of the top defenders in the ASUN in Maura Palandro. Palandro was voted Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and led the team in ground balls with 46.
The Owls begin the 2019 campaign in Friday, February 8th, when they travel out to the desert to take on Arizona State. The 2019 schedule features programs such as Vanderbilt, Marquette, St. Bonaventure and New Hampshire. Kennesaw State opens up conference play on March 16 when it takes on ASUN newcomer, Liberty.
