Kennesaw, Ga.
-- Kennesaw State women's golfer Madison Caldwell qualified for the 2017 US Women's Amateur on Thursday afternoon.

Caldwell shot a 3-under par 69 at the US Women's Amateur Sectional Qualifier at Walnut Grove Country Club in Dayton, Ohio. Caldwell made five birdies and 11 pars during her round to finish tied for third overall.

"This is such a huge accomplishment," Head Coach Rhyll Brinsmead said. "For Madison to go to Ohio and shoot 69 and qualify for the USGA Women's Amateur is a testament to the hard work that she has put in this summer so far. Madison will be the third KSU golfer to represent Kennesaw State at this prestigious event. Anytime a golfer qualifies for a USGA event it is a huge deal particularly when they shoot 3-under par to do so. I am so proud of Madison for earning this spot. I know she will represent herself and Kennesaw State with pride out in California."

The rising junior joined the Owls in the spring of 2017 and played in four tournaments. The Dawsonville, Georgia native made her KSU debut at the JU Amelia Island Collegiate where she fired rounds 77-81-71-229 to tie for 41st. Her third round 1-under par 71 was her season-best round. Her best finish of the year came at the Henssler Intercollegiate where she carded rounds of 73-72-72 for a 1-over par 145.

The 2017 US Women's Amateur will take place August 7-13 at San Diego Country Club in Chula Vista, Calif.
