Eagles & Flames Grab Meet Titles; Kirwa Wins VT Invite 6K

Men's Cross Country Schedule

ATLANTA, Ga. - FGCU & Liberty captured team titles on the opening weekend of competition for ASUN Conference Men's Cross Country teams as the Eagles won the FAU Invitational and the Flames garnered the Virginia Tech Invitational.

Azaria Kirwa crossed the finish line first in Blacksburg with a 6K time of 18:32.8 and was followed by two other teammates in the top-five; Augostine Lisoreng (18:36.0; 3rd) & Felix Kandie (18:36.1; 5th) as Liberty posted 29 points for a 14-point victory. Liberty added two other top-20 runners with Benjamin Klemmeck and Nick Doan.

At the FAU Invitational, ASUN teams earned the top-two spots with FGCU and Stetson both posting 36 points, but the Eagles claimed the trophy following the tie-breaker. Eagles and Hatters peppered the leaderboard with 12 runners in top-14. Lucas Kiprotich registered FGCU's top time of 15:24.01 in the 5K race just ahead of Stetson's Hillary Melly (15:25.64) in third. Ronny Greenup (4th), Austin Redondo (9th) and Joseph Salerno (10th) round out the top-10 for the Eagles, while Stetson's collection included Tristen Montalvo (5th), Arye Beck (7th) and Samuel Craig (8th).

Lipscomb and North Alabama finished third and fourth at the Belmont Opener 5K with UNA's Justin Watson clocking the best ASUN time (15:45.15) to grab sixth place at the event. The Bisons registered three runners in the top-20 as Lipscomb finished behind Belmont and Vanderbilt. Andrew Ayers guided the way for Lipscomb with his time of 16:07.37 to earn 10th place. Ryan Bush followed Ayers in 14th in 16:14.71. Two Owls crossed the line in the top-five at the JSU Struts Opener 5K with Chase Kennedy (15:49.5; 3rd) and Koi Williams (15:52.3; 4th) as Kennesaw State finished fifth in the 15-team event.
