40th Year of ASUN Men's Cross Country Hits the Starting Line

Men's Cross Country Schedule

ATLANTA, Ga. - The 40th season of ASUN Conference Men's Cross Country action hears the starter's pistol on Friday with six league squads hitting four different courses. Three conference teams were ranked in the initial USTFCCCA Regional Polls with Liberty (7th; Southeast Region), Lipscomb (7th; South Region) & North Florida (10th; South Region).

FGCU and Stetson head to the FAU Invitational at Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park, while Liberty takes to the Virginia Tech Invitational. Both races are set for 6:30 PM starts. Lipscomb and North Alabama continue action at 6 PM CT at the Belmont Opener with a 5K race at Percy Warner Park - the site of four previous ASUN Championships. 

Kennesaw State concludes the opening day of running at the JSU Struts Cross Country Opener at the Choccolocco Park Sports Complex in Oxford, Ala. with a start time of 6:45 PM CT. Jacksonville, NJIT and North Florida begin their seasons next week.

FGCU & Stetson at FAU Invitational 5K - Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park - 6:30 PM
- Last year, FGCU finished with 47 points for second place in the five-team race just ahead of Stetson in third with 53 points. Miami (Fla.) claimed the title.
- Joseph Salerno (16:13.34; 9th) and Jan Figueroa (16:18.91; 12th) are the top returners to this race for FGCU.
- Stetson returns four top-15 runners from last year's FAU Invite; Hillary Melly (16:07.38; 7th), Stew Schmidt (16:08.89; 8th), Arye Beck (16:15.06; 10th) & Samuel Craig (16:23.58; 14th).

Liberty at Virginia Tech Invitational 6K - Buford Meredith Cross Country Course - 6:30 PM
- The Flames return to the season-opening race at Virginia Tech for the first time since the 2012 season.
- Liberty returns three All-Conference runners from last year; Azaria Kirwa, James Zentmeyer & Augostine Lisoreng. Kirwa was tabbed the ASUN Preseason Runner of the Year.

Lipscomb & North Alabama at Belmont Opener 5K - Percy Warner Park - 6 PM CT
- Lipscomb has started its year at the Belmont Opener for the past 10 seasons, while North Alabama makes its Division I debut in Nashville. 
- Last year, the Bisons finished second to host Belmont with five runners in the top-10 of the 5K. Silas Griffith led the Bisons in second place with a time of 15:30.53.
- The Lions return nine runners from last year including their top performer Justin Watson, who finished first at the 2017 Stan Sims Invite which featured three ASUN teams.

Kennesaw State at JSU Struts XC Opener 7K - Choccolocco Park Sports Complex - 6:45 PM CT
- Kennesaw State takes to the JSU Struts XC Opener for the second-straight season. The Owls feature four freshmen and two sophomores on their six-man roster.
- Chase Kennedy is the lone returner to run at the JSU Struts last year as he finished 31st with a time of 16:19.0 in the 5K race.
