ATLANTA, Ga. - The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) revealed its All-Academic Team for the 2018-19 academic year and the ASUN Conference has a total of three Men's Track & Field student-athletes honored for their academic achievement while Lipscomb posted the second-best men's team GPA in the nation.
For the second year in a row, the Bisons' Men's Track team posted a GPA that ranked second in the nation. Lipscomb finished 0.02 behind Harvard with a cumulative GPA of 3.53.
On the individual side, Kennesaw State and Liberty each had student-athletes recognized by the USTFCCCA, while NJIT and North Florida joined Lipscomb in being recognized for their efforts on the track and in the classroom as a whole.
Liberty had two representatives from its squad receive the academic honor. The Flames named to the list included junior Jovaine Atkinson as well as freshman Anders Janes. Jordan Hewing of Kennesaw State also received the academic honor from the USTFCCCA. Hewing was also a member of the 2019 ASUN All-Academic Team with a 3.64 GPA.
For the team awards, NJIT, North Florida and Lipscomb each were bestowed with an overall academic award. The Highlanders accumulated a 3.09 GPA, the Ospreys obtained a 3.21 mark and the Bisons achieved a 3.53 GPA, which was second-best of the 139 Division I men's track and field programs that were recognized.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must have a GPA of 3.25 and meet one of the following athletic standards:
- For the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the top 96 of a national individual event or in the top 48 of a national relay event.
- For outdoor, an athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships.
To qualify for USTFCCA All-Academic honors as a team, a team must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
