North Florida Men's Golf Pair Qualifies for US Amateur

JACKSONVILLE -- The University of North Florida men's golf team had a pair of players, Andrew Alligood and Jeff Doty, qualify for the upcoming 2017 U.S. Amateur Championship following top finishes at recent sectional qualifying events.

Alligood, a rising junior for the Ospreys, posted rounds of 65-72 (137) en route to sharing medalist honors at the qualifier at Black Diamond Ranch in Lecanto, Fla. Doty, an incoming freshman from Carmel, Ind., finished runner-up of the qualifier hosted at Cedar Chase Golf Club (Cedar Springs, Mich.) after recording scores of 69-73 (142).

Several other UNF linksters will make their attempts to qualify for the prestigious event in upcoming qualifying tournaments. Junior Philip Knowles will play July 10-11 at Orange Tree Golf Club (Orlando, Fla.), while the qualifier field on July 24-25 at World Golf Village's King & Bear Course will include seniorDillon Woods, juniors Travis Trace and Jordan Batchelor along with newcomer Spencer Slayden.

The U.S. Amateur will be held Aug. 14-20 at historic Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
