JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - No. 5 Lipscomb powered its way to a victory at the 2018 ASUN Conference Baseball Championship as the Bisons eliminated NJIT 10-5 in the first game of Thursday's schedule.

The league leaders in home runs once again showed off their power as Lipscomb slugged three long balls in the first two innings to take an early lead. Cade Sorrells opened the long ball parade with a two-run shot down the right-field line that erased a 1-0 NJIT early lead in the bottom of the first inning. Catcher Jeffrey Crisan was up next and he made it a back-to-back, belly-to-belly first inning with his second homer of the Championship.

The Highlanders continued to battle back to the even the score at 3-3 courtesy of Justin Etts' two-run single in the top of the second, as neither pitching staff was able to keep the offenses off the board. That trend continued in the bottom of the second, when senior Lee Solomon stepped up to the plate and hit a rocket off the scoreboard to give Lipscomb a 5-3 lead.

Both pitching staffs settled down and started to throw up some scoreless innings. It wasn't until the sixth inning when Lipscomb extended its lead. NJIT cut the deficit to one, but the Bisons responded with three runs in the bottom of the sixth to make it 8-4 heading into the final three innings. Alex Dorso entered the contest and he kept the Highlanders' bats in check in the seventh and eighth. After a weather delay of more than two hours, Dorso came back out to record the final three outs and keep the Bisons alive in this year's ASUN Championship. All-Freshman team selection, Julio Marcano hit a solo homer in the ninth to make the final score 10-5 in favor of Lipscomb.

Lipscomb will be back in action on Friday afternoon at 3 PM ET. They will find out their opponent later tonight between No. 2 Jacksonville and No. 4 North Florida. The loser of that contest will face elimination against the Bisons tomorrow. NJIT's resurgent season ends with a 22-25 mark, as the Highlanders played in their first-ever ASUN Baseball Championship this week.
