FGCU, KSU, NJIT & Stetson Pick Up ASUN Victories in Friday's Action


LakePoint, Ga. - FGCU remained atop the ASUN standings on Friday, as they took down Jacksonville 4-3 in extra innings. Kennesaw State, NJIT and Stetson all took home victories in the night caps on Friday night.

FGCU took down JU 4-3 in extra innings in Friday afternoon action. Mario Leon tossed seven solid innings for the Eagles, allowing 2 ER, 2 BB and 2 H, while striking out five. First basemen Jay Hayes provided the offensive spark for FGCU in the first inning with a two RBI double in the first innings. Jake Smith provided the heroics for the Eagles in the top of the 10th, when he came off the bench and provided an RBI single to take the league. With the win, FGCU stays stop the ASUN standings with a 3-1 record. 

AJ Moore provided seven strong innings for KSU on Friday night, as he allowed just 4 H, 1 ER, while striking out 4 Ks. Terence Norman led the offensive charge for Kennesaw State, going 3-4 with an RBI. Tyler Simon also knocked in a run, while going 2-3 at the dish. UNF starter Frank German also turned in a quality start, tossing 8 IP, allowing 3 ER, 2 BB and striking out 9 Ks. The two squads will meet again on Saturday for double-header with first pitch of Game 1 scheduled for 12 PM ET. 

NJIT surpassed their ASUN win total from last year, as they took down USC Upstate at Riverfront Stadium, 7-3. Evan Pietronico opened up the flood gates in the fourth inning with a two RBI double to untie the score and make it 4-2. Mike Anastasia followed him with an RBI single to make it 5-2 and Upstate would never get closer. Freshman Julio Marcano went 3-5 with two doubles and two RBI for the Highlanders. The Highlanders got a strong combined effort from starter Jared Kacso and reliever Tommy Derer collaborated to go 8.1 IP, allowing just 2 ER, 3 BB and 9 H. NJIT and Upstate will play a double-header on Saturday afternoon with first pitch of Game 1 slated for 1 PM ET. 

Stetson and Lipscomb played to a pitchers dual on Friday night as Logan Gilbert and Joshia Colon went toe-to-toe. Gilbert went eight strong innings, surrendering just 5 H, 2 BB, 2 ER and striking out 11. Colon was equally as impressive, turning in six innings, scattering just 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB and stirking out six. The two squads couldn't settle it in regulation and had to resort to extra innings. Eric Foggo sent the Melching Field crowd home happy with a walk-off RBI single in the bottom of th 10th. Lee Solomon was the spark plug on office for Lipscomb. He went 3-4 at the play and also stole a base, scored a run and hit a home run for the Bisons.
